Hello! Whether by accident, design or, you know, serendipity, you’re listening to The Serendipity Studio. This is a brand new podcast with me, your host, Sam Radford. Thanks for taking the time to listen! In this first, introductory episode I want to say a little bit about what this podcast is all about and what you can expect from it. And why, I hope, you’re gonna want to keep listening! To cut to the chase, The Serendipity Studio is a podcast designed to help you do three things: 1. reimagine success,  2. live fully awake,  3. and forge a life of significance. So, yeah, nothing major…and no pressure on my part… ;-) I’ll actually say a little more about those three elements shortly but, before that, what about the format of the show? Well, the first thing I want to say is that you can expect nice,  short episodes! There are so many great podcasts out there, but a lot of them are seriously long! The Serendipity Studio will typically be five minute episodes. Yes, that’s right: just five minute episodes. Enough time to share something meaningful, while honouring the fact time is limited for most of us. The second thing I want to say is that each episode will be tightly focussed. It turns out it’s not just we men who aren’t great at multitasking. None of us are. Our brains don’t work well that way. In a similar vein, I want each episode to leave you thinking about just one thing.I don’t know about you, but in many podcasts I listen to, I come away with five or six brilliant insights or ideas. Which is great. Apart from I typically end up doing nothing about any of them. So yes: five minute episodes that give you a single thing to think about. And then, third and finally, I want this podcast to be a dialogue. So if you have thoughts, comments, ideas, or feedback, do get in touch. You can send a tweet to @Serendipity_Pod or an email to comments@serendipity.fm. I’ll look forward to hearing from you.Let me give some more context to what I mean when we’re talking about success and serendipity. And the first thing I want to stress is that success is not something you can pursue. You might need to let that last sentence sink in a bit! But it’s true: we need to move beyond pursuing success. True success, you see, is only ever something that ensues. Success, as Bob Iger, CEO of Disney, says in his recent autobiography, comes down in no small part to luck. Or what I would call serendipity. But – and this is an important but – we can open ourselves up to serendipitous success by the choices we make. Serendipity occurs when we’re awake to the opportunities that cross our paths, and are not sleepwalking right past them. All of us spend periods of our lives, or have areas of our lives, where we are not fully awake. We drift. We go on auto-pilot. We get caught up in our busy, non-stop lives. And, if we’re not careful, we end up half asleep, missing out on the full, rich life we can all have…and we all deserve. So this show, is about learning to life with our eyes, our hearts, our minds all wide open. It’s about cultivating the right habits, behaviours, and attitudes into our lives in order to maximise the chances of being in the right place at the right time when serendipity comes calling. This isn’t about fate though; it is about being awake. But this podcast is about more than merely positioning ourselves better for success. I hope to challenge many of our assumptions about the very notions of success and what it truly is. I want to shift our focus to thinking more about the significance of our lives than the success of them. All of that is to set the broader context for the upcoming episodes. Each of them will explore an area of life that we would benefit from having our eyes and ears more fully awakened to. In very different ways, I hope they’ll stretch our thinking about success, and yes, move us towards forging a life of real significance. And that’s it for this introductory episode. If you haven’t already, do please subscribe to it via your podcast app of choice. And, if you like it, why not head over to Apple Podcasts and leave a rating and a review. That makes such a difference in helping other people find out about this podcast. Thank you! And I’ll see you next time for the first, full, episode.
